at a light for a long time do I usually do that.(and I keep an eye on my rearview at that to make sure no-one is going to rearend me or the guy behind me. I've run a red light before to avoid being rearended after comming to a stop) Also, since we have power steering and brakes, you lose that if your engine stalls while you are coasting with the clutch in. I was scared crapless riding in an Escort GT on spring break in Colorado in college. The girl driving would go down the mountains in neutral and would SLAM on the brakes before the corner and then yank the wheel to make the corner. She thought you would crash if you used your brakes in a corner!! I could just see the engine stalling and the idiot girl having no brakes and no steering. Every since then I never coast out of gear, except maybe the last 20-30 feet up to a light or stop sign or something.
